KWH -The Complete Guide


  • EKM-15IDS -- 120 volt :

    The wires being read pass through the body of the meter. Wires must be less than 3/8″ diameter.
    The LCD screen will display total kWh (kilowatt hours) only

  • EKM-25IDS -- 120/240 volt (most common household current in the US) :

    The wires being read pass through the body of the meter, wires must be less than 3/8″ diameter

  • EKM-15E -- 120 volt :

    External CT (sometimes easier to instal)

    You can mount the CT on the wire in either direction and the red and black wire can go into either CT port (Port 1 and 3)

    The “S0” in the wiring diagram refers to the Pulse Output of this meter. The Pulse Output can be read and counted from up to 200 feet away to determine how many kWh have been used. This meter pulses at a rate of 1000 pulses per kWh.

    This meter can be wired to read 240 volts. To do this you must always power the meter with 120 volts. You will meter the 2 hot legs of a 240 volt system. Pass one hot leg through the CT in one direction and the other hot leg through the CT in the other direction. Or you can order 2 CTs and put them in the same CT port on the thin meter. The CTs must be facing in 2 different directions.

  • Choosing your Communication Converter

    High Voltage Wiring:
    Always turn the power off before installation -installation should only be performed by a qualified electrician

    These meters should be installed in a protected location. Such as a sub panel or electrical enclosure. If you are planning on using your own enclosure, we supply 3” pieces of DIN rail ($2) that make for an easy install. Once your meter is properly wired, you can clip the meter to this DIN rail. We also provide indoor and outdoor meter boxes.

    Each meter draws less than 1 watt of power
